"A person's mind stretched by a new idea can never go back to its original dimensions"
Oliver Wendell Holmes (1841-1935) This U.S. Supreme Court Justice was born in Boston, Massachusetts. Holmes's greatest learning experience was his part in the Civil War. After leaving his regiment Holmes attended Harvard Law School, from which he graduated in 1866. His book, The Common Law, brought him worldwide fame. The first paragraph contains what is probably Holmes's most famous sentence: "The life of the law has not been logic: it has been experience." Holmes married Fanny Dixwell and the marriage lasted until her death in 1929; they had no children.
