We all lead busy lives, and time is a precious commodity. Think of the people you know who tend to be in control. Usually these people are well balanced in the important areas of their lives. Recent studies show that about 57% of us are present and future oriented, 33% are mostly future oriented, 9% are present oriented, and only 1% focus on the past. The most successful people are future or goal oriented.

Your values should be the foundation for your goals. If your goals conflict with your core values or beliefs, resolutions will be difficult to attain and will lead to stress. If you want a better chance at accomplishing your goals, follow these steps:

  1. Write them down. Written goals help to clarify them and provide you a means to measure how you're dong.

  2. Develop an action plan. This is a list of daily tasks which includes steps toward achieving your goals.

The combination of written goals and action plans are the first steps to 'future perfect'
